Patrick Walker

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Photography)

Being raised in remote Northern Territory, the strange landscape—both geographical and social—has made a lasting imprint on my image making. Through an ethnographic lens, my work reveals the curious, mundane and often humorous place I live in; for instance, the subculture of speedway racing. I have noticed that the most compelling time of day is in the last few moments of the setting sun, when things become darker and more foreboding. By using colour positive slide film, I am able to accentuate these last glimpses of the harsh Northern Territorian light. The depictions of street-lit neighbourhoods, fading sunsets and bashed up sedan race cars paint a portrait of my home.
