Domenyk Eades

Graduate Certificate of Visual Art

I paint compositions that occupy a space between the figurative and the abstract. They are inspired by subject matter drawn from the Australian landscape and are an emotional response to the natural world I experience in my everyday life. My process begins with basic structures and gestural elements that are inspired by drawings or photographs I create. The painting emerges through a process of improvisation, in which possible spatial relationships between form, colour and texture are continuously reassessed throughout its development. The aim of the works is to create a new illusory space on the canvas in which basic elements of existence, such as light and darkness or growth and decay, are embedded.
