Relationships between colour, aesthetics and materiality are the main focus in my abstract paintings. In my painting, I actively challenge my personal, visceral reaction to the dichotomy of ‘pretty’ versus ‘ugly’ colours.
I intentionally clash colour, creating vibrant, fun and joyful paintings that occupy a range of sizes, shapes and textures. Methods of collaging recycled materials and techniques considered as 'traditional' women's crafts, such as sewing and crochet, are combined with DIY construction to intensify my abstract explorations of materiality. The paintings operate as vibrant, spatial works that also function as documentations of time; as a diary or portrait of myself and my life at the time of their creation.
