Graduate Certificate of Visual Art
This semester my art practice has focused on Maude, a marionette puppet. Maude pirouetted into my art as a result of the limitations of freedom brought on by COVID-19.
Maude dances her way through personal, political and public spaces, seeking to escape the multiplying strings of social controls, discipline and government rule. Maude has a transcendental quality as she explores how social pressures and expectations influence the self and the subjective psychological state. Previously I have explored these threads of self and other through painting, sculpture, design and textiles. Maude has allowed me to tease out these connections using puppetry and multimedia.
