Sixia Hu

Graduate Certificate of Visual Art

Working with immersive multimedia installations, I create poetic and meditative vignettes of nature.

With a background in medical education, I am a keen observer of social situations, and I consider visual language and sound as tools for expressing my concerns about society.

My recent series of slow-motion videos, 2020, evokes the beauty of the natural world while also being informed by my experiences as a medical worker during the COVID-19 crisis. The series of videos tries to communicate a sense of emotional distress and the healing process that might occur when faced with hardship. It is also a response to current social and environment issues, which I allude to by creating a peaceful atmosphere to reveal human nature and values that can be understood without the need for words.
