Jak Rapmund

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Drawing & Printmaking)

Prioritising the act of making, I explore the strength of materiality as a conduit for an organic evolution of ideas. Destruction is the catalyst of creativity: the material property of wooden structures is exposed to forces of violence, erosion and flame. Cannibalising old works to make way for the new, I build, dismantle, reimagine and recycle. Engaging in a cycle of resistance and repetition, the value of failure and the act of work is necessary for production. The aesthetics of the ruin become a chance for re-creation, creating objects that reflect the fragility of the structures that we exist within.
