Nisha Hunter
Bachelor of Fine Arts (Drawing & Printmaking)
I am an interdisciplinary artist using text, video, installation and textiles in an ongoing exploration of identity and the self. I am interested in the personal becoming political, as I use storytelling, memories and dreams to consider how individual and cultural identity is made up from subjective applications of experience and recollection. The moving image has been a consistent aspect of my work and more recently my practice has been guided by an interest in turmeric. Drawn to the yielding yellow, I utilise the spice in the form of dye in my textile work or allow it to inform the language of dreams and memories in my text-based and video works. I do not aim to provide answers to the questions of identity, rather invite the viewer to come to their own conclusions.
