Pang Jie Siah

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Drawing & Printmaking)

Primarily through painting, my work explores modern undercurrents that pertain to isolation and loneliness in our current dynamic and rapidly changing society. I find this aspect interesting as we have never been more connected and globalised due to the internet and transportation networks. I immerse myself into old and new sensibilities through different mediums and topics in order to explore ideas about the public and private space, societal immersions in media and technology, urban and city life and Marc Augé's Non-Places in a society and culture that is in constant change. My primary medium, oil painting, not only allows freedom in control but is also a traditional practice that needs patience, a distinct contrast to the restlessness of our stressful and digital world.
