It is impressionistic stuff; and referential stuff, so it is quick. That is how I want it. I felt all of these teenage feelings coming back, so I went with those and made it sentimental and painful. I think it should make you feel embarrassed when you see it. I thought about romance being so fragile that it could suddenly fall apart, and how it often does so cyclically. I thought about machines left in fields and electrical cords; trampolines in backyards, photographic grain and braided hair. Yet it is not all together soft and lovely. I think there is also very extreme violence and hatred, and this is because I feel so jaded. It is about the desperation of feeling in a world that is finished.
