VCA ART 2020

Shonelle Conn

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Photography)

Working with mixed media, from film to bedazzling, the world of internet culture (the main source of media that I consume) and particular types of female characters influence my practice. I tend to combine the colour pink with an ideal or female character, to highlight how we as a society have connotations between femininity and colour. The women I watched, idolised and mimicked during my formative years heavily influence my art, specifically the hyperfeminine blondes of the 1990s, such as Pamela Anderson and Anna Nicole Smith. This piece is inspired by what I imagine these women would be doing during the COVID-19 lockdown.
