Isabella Imperatore

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Photography)

What is my idea of the home? The home is sharing a meal; learning recipes passed down by family. It is trinkets and souvenirs. Photographs, tea towels, card games, magnets and shelves. I craft wooden structures as an extension of this domestic space to emulate my surroundings, using personal items to create a montage of the home. My work is a love letter to my grandparents' home, as it nods to the style of a stereotypical Italian migrant household. My practice is deeply engaged in the act of assemblage, as if I was decorating the home, obsessively shifting and sorting objects until I feel it is right. Through the process I inherently feel a connection to my family and the memories attached to them.
